Member Event:
75th Anniversary of the Route 400
Sunday, 26th of May, 2024
Join us for a special Members only trip from York Street to Ryde and back as we recreate the original 400 and 500 in double decker exhibits 2087 and 1003.
WHAT TO EXPECT
Sydney Bus Museum Members are invited to take part in an afternoon tour recreating the route of the 400 from York Street, QVB to the old terminus at Top Ryde.
May of this year marks 75 years since the introduction of the Route 400, which was the first government bus route to link Ryde and the CBD in order to eventually replace the then existing tram service. Commencing in 1949, the service supplemented the trams until their withdrawal in 1953. This takeover by buses being one of the earliest in Sydney, performed on what was then the longest line on the Sydney tram network.

To mark this anniversary, Museum exhibits Leyland OPD2 2087 and Leyland Atlantean 1003 will operate a special Members only run of the old 400 route - 2087 representing the route in its heyday as the 400, and 1003 representing the route during later years as the now familiar 500.
A variety of photo stops will be available along the route, giving opportunity of mid-afternoon and early evening shots along Victoria Road, and at Ryde.
