Daimler CGV6 112

One of fifteen Daimler double-deck chassis ordered in 1946 by the Department of Road Transport and Tramways for use in Sydney. On arrival, it was found that their 4.95m chassis length did not meet required specifications of 5.33m and delivery was refused. They were then sold to the Metropolitan Transport Trust, Adelaide. Adelaide style, 54 seat double deck, bodies were built by Commonwealth Engineering, Granville and they were driven overland to South Australia where they became fleet numbers 112-126 in 1947-8.
The group was significant as the last double deck rear platform buses built for use outside NSW. The buses were used in Adelaide on services to Glenelg and Somerton until 1960. 112 was then sold to a cattle station in the Coober Pedy area of South Australia. 112 was recovered for preservation in 1990 and was driven over 1,000 miles to Sydney without incident. Restoration began in 2016 and it will be several years before 112 re-enters service.
