Historic Documents
SBM's archives hold many interesting documents on Sydney's bus history. We are currently digitising many of these documents to preserve their historical significance, enhance public access, and protect these valuable records for future generations.
This 1924 report was passed on to us by the Melbourne Tram Museum. It was written by C W Young, Assistant Manager MMTB, after a visit to Sydney. It summarises the state of Sydney's, then all private, bus industry covering routes, buses, costs, passengers, and the competition with trams. It is one of the oldest documents in our collection.
This report was created by the Sydney Bus Museum and details the past and current NSW Government Depots, Garages, Sheds and Workshops.
GR Steer, General Manager, Brisbane Tramway Trust, along with colleagues visited Sydney in October 1925 and prepared detailed observations of the Sydney bus scene. Of interest are the details of the bus chassis and bodies in use at the time and the running costs and other issues. The report is from Brisbane City Archives and has been supplied to SBM by Robert Thomson of the Brisbane Tramway Museum.
Stay tuned for updates.
