The overhaul of Leyland OPD2 2033 commenced in 2017 and is now nearing completion. Over the last few years this double decker workhorse has undergone an extensive restoration with volunteer assistance. Work has included new external panels, paint, interior rejuvenation and an overhauled engine and ancillaries. Freshly trimmed upholstery is presently being prepared by an external contractor (funded by a Transport Heritage grant) and will be installed shortly.
In the last few weeks the top deck ceiling has been repainted and refurbished advertising racks have been refitted. The light fittings have been polished and reinstalled, together with a complete replacement of all window rubbers and felt throughout. Freshly painted masonite panels for the inner side walls and metal trim are presently being installed.
A relaunch of this vehicle is planned for mid March. There will be further updates on the progress towards the completion of this project.
