Operation Denning

Updated: Jun 15

For many years, the Sydney Bus Museum has wanted to add a highway coach to our collection. The iconic maker of Australian coaches is Denning. An opportunity has arisen to purchase DL1247 for inclusion in our collection. This is a 1987 built Denning with a 6v92 Detroit Diesel engine.

DL1247 was new to the NSW Police and served NSW for many years taking the Police Band to various performances. In 2007 it was sold to Comealong Tours and later to Bankstown Coaches. It was retired in 2016 and sold to a motorcycle enthusiast in Victoria. The coach remains in very original condition and has low mileage for a vehicle of this age.

The museum was made aware of this historic vehicle and has negotiated to purchase it; however, we now need your help. We need to raise $20,000 to cover the purchase price of DL1247. The Sydney Bus Museum is a not-for-profit charity registered with the Australian Tax Office. Donations over $2 are tax deductible.

The plan is to restore DL1247 into the very eye-catching “State Rail” candy colour scheme that was worn by several of these Denning Landseer coaches. Donations received will go directly towards the purchase of this coach.
